Weaving legs, soft sliding and flying women above the heads of their partners – these are the instant flashbacks, occurring in your mind after seeing Sinfonia de Tango: A Tribute to Astor Piazzolla by Tango Pasion.
Tango Pasion within its European tour 2015 has visited Helsinki and was hosted by Savoy-teatteri stage in the very last days of winter.
Company’s last production Sinfonia de Tango through live music, live singing and live dancing on the stage carries a viewer far away from Finland’s winter lethargy and comletely immerses him into the culture of strongly emotional Argentinian tango.
Five couples on the dancing floor create the collection of stories: the stories betweeen women and men, the stories about women and men.
In these stories the image of the woman is full of femenine beauty, fragile and powerful at the same time. The macho-like-men are haughty, conceited and competitive.
The stories contain different tints and shades; at times delicate and sensual, often bright and intense. Through their rapid sequence the general mood develops from light flirtation and subtle restraint into real passion and unconditional possession.
The virtuosity of dancing boggles the imagination. Spontaneity in throwing the ankle between partner’s legs makes you think, that the legs of these dancers live their own life apart from the rest of the body. On top of that the skillful tricks of twisting a woman above the partner’s head in the air make each dance piece be watched in one breath.
The whole show is watched in one breath though. The viewer’s eye is constantly caught with the intensity of the action on the stage. The virtuosity of dancers’ work alternates with the brilliant performance of the musicians. Pure ecstasy of Gabriel Merlino’s accordion playing is followed by the charming voice of vocalist Vanina Sol Tagini.
And sometimes just for a few minutes the heat of passion on the stage cools down and let the eye have a rest, while Pablo Estigarribia’s stirring Grand piano sounds fill the air up and speak straight to your heart.
